Lesson 44: Excellent Resources To Help You Promote Your Blog For Free

At this point, if you’re comfortable with taking on a bit more complexity and feel that you can handle adding promotion to your SEO strategy to get traffic to your site, I’d like to share some excellent resources and further reading to help you promote your blog for free.

Before I proceed, though, I’d like to remind you that if this is your first time in Internet Marketing, and you haven’t had a profitable website before, keeping things simple will increase your chances of sticking with it and achieving success.

Expert Roundups

An Expert Roundup involves sending a provocative or interesting question about a topic to other experts in your industry whose answers you include in an article. The idea is for these experts to share your content with their followers when you notify them that their answers were included in your content.

Promote My Blog For Free: Expert Roundup

This practice helps form relationships with other experts in your industry and get on their radar for future partnerships, guest blogging, and other collaborations.

Expert roundups are a good way to start seeing traction a lot faster, especially if you hold one every month, because when you quote an expert, they will often share your post with their followers. Experts usually have thousands of followers on social media. Needless to say, that’s a lot of people who are going to see your content and likely click your link.

It’s wise to already have at least five to 10 high-quality posts by the time you start doing Expert Roundups, though. When their followers come to your website, the last thing you want them to see is a bare website. You want to come across as an authority so that when visitors read your articles, they’ll want to read more.

SmartBlogger.com published a comprehensive and tremendously helpful step-by-step guide to creating expert roundups titled The Ultimate Guide to Creating an Expert Roundup Post That Gets 1000s of Shares.

Off-Page SEO

Off-page SEO centers around getting high-quality links to pages you’re trying to rank. I’ve discussed on-page SEO, but off-page SEO also plays an important role in whether or not you get rankings. I’d even venture to say that while on-page SEO is the foundation, off-page SEO is where the battle is won. If you don’t pay attention and do a sloppy job, you run the risk of rendering your website useless.

If off-page SEO sounds right up your alley, then I HIGHLY recommend The Ultimate Guide to Off-Page SEO by Neil Patel found on NeilPatel.com.

Guest Blogging

Guest blogging involves writing a blog post and having it published on another website. Use the relationships you’ve formed from expert roundups to score guest blogging opportunities.

Promote My Blog For Free: Guest Blogging

The goal here is to get your content in front of a new audience, as well as linking to your website from a website that has more authority. In that respect, guest blogging can be considered a form of off-page SEO.

If guest blogging sounds like something you’d like to do, the article Guest Blogging: The Definitive Guide (2019) on Backlinko.com walks you through guest blogging, step-by-step.

60 Free Traffic Strategies

If none of the former options sound good to you, or you’d like to know other ways to promote your website, I have an in-depth article on Stopping Scams titled 60 Ways To Promote Your Blog: Free Traffic Strategies That Work that lists 60 free ways to promote your blog.

The list may seem overwhelming (the article itself is almost 15,000 words long) but remember: you don’t have to do them all. I recommend browsing through the ideas and picking two or three that you can comfortably do in conjunction with creating high-quality content for your website.

Try one of these promotion strategies for a month or two and see if your website is gaining traction. If there isn’t much traction after that period, they you may need to stick with that strategy a while longer or choose another one from the list. Regardless of what you do, never neglect the quality of your content. That should always take priority over promotion.

Lessons 39–44 Key Takeaways

  • The “Post and Pray” method involves identifying keywords, crafting high-quality content around those keywords, optimizing content for search engines, and repeating those steps for different keywords until your website gathers a collection of high-quality content and builds authority.
  • I recommend determining if social media is a good fit for you and your content. Those who are trying to build lifestyle-based brands would have the most to gain from social media.
  • For visual media, all you need is three-point lighting (one on either side of the camera and one at the back), a decent lapel or lavalier microphone, and a high-quality, high-definition web camera.
  • Don’t buy automated traffic. At best, they’re a waste of time. At worst, you can end up sabotaging your own website.
  • The people who should pursue paid traffic (e.g., pay per click (PPC) on Google) are those who have thick skin and plenty of money to burn.
