Today, more and more people are jumping on the blogging and vlogging trend.

I mean — who wouldn’t? With articles popping up describing how much top bloggers and vloggers earn, it’s no wonder everyone wants in.

What started out as something people do for fun and games became a million-dollar potential source of income. But which industry makes more money: blogging or vlogging?

Blogging

How much money do bloggers actually make? The best way to find out is by looking at the bloggers who are transparent enough to publish their monthly/yearly income reports.

Making Sense of Cents is a personal and finance lifestyle blog. The owner of the blog, Michelle, was able to pay off $38,000 in student loans because of her blog (through affiliate marketing). Her most recent income report claims that her blog made $1,536,732 in ONE YEAR. That’s more than $100,000 a month.

Ryan Robinson, the owner of ryrob.com, teaches 500,000+ monthly subscribers how to start a blog and grow a profitable side business. On his September income report, he stated that he earned $43,297.99 (minus expenses) that month. The majority of his earnings ($43,597.91) also come from affiliate earnings.

Now, these are big-time bloggers who’ve already made it, so how can someone who’s relatively new to the industry expect to earn?

Realistically, don’t expect to earn thousands of dollars in the first month of creating your blog. After the first year, if things go well, you can expect to earn $500 – $2,000 per month. In the following years, once you’ve established authority in your niche, your income should increase.

Vlogging

When it comes to vlogging, there’s no doubt that YouTube dominates. YouTube has become the go-to platform for almost every single vlogger out there.

So how much do YouTube’s top earners make?

Ryan Kaji, the eight-year old kid behind Ryan’s World, earned around $22 million in 2018. Crazy, right? You would never guess that a toy review channel would make millions of dollars. Dude Perfect is an entertainment-comedy YouTube channel led by 5 friends who perform stunts and feature sports. Dude Perfect earns around $300,000 per YouTube video.

YouTubers earn their revenue or income through ads (no wonder most YouTube videos are riddled with ads). However, that’s not the only way to make money from a vlog. A vlogger can also monetize through sponsorships and affiliate marketing.

Blogging vs Vlogging: Money Potential

How much a person can earn from blogging will depend on how much time is dedicated to the blog. Most successful bloggers and vloggers work 10 to 30 hours a week.

Both the blogging and vlogging industries can be lucrative in their own way. You can be one of the next success stories.

It won’t be a walk in the park, though.

Established bloggers and vloggers didn’t achieve their success overnight or by dumb luck. Running a successful internet marketing business takes hard work, dedication, persistence, and good old-fashioned grit.
