Quora is many a blogger’s best-kept secret to success. In today’s short but nonetheless helpful post, I’ll give you a step-by-step process on how to create an account on Quora and set it up so you can get the most out of Quora.
Quora is taking the internet by storm.
Aside from being a seemingly endless source of knowledge (and distraction), it has evolved into a useful tool for bloggers to reach their target audience, as well as to show their content to new ones.
In today’s brief but practical post, I’ll give you a step-by-step guide on how to create an account on Quora. Also, I’ll give you some tips on how to set up your Quora account for success.
You might already be in Quora, but if not, here’s a quick summary of what it is and how it works.
Quora is a question-and-answer site where questions are asked and answered by its vast community of users (as of June 2017, the site has over 200 million unique visitors).
The Quora community also decides which answers are helpful and which ones aren’t through upvotes and downvotes. However, aside from reader votes, Quora uses various criteria to determine which answer is displayed at the top of the page.
These criteria include, but aren’t limited to, the expertise of the author and how helpful their previous answers were, quality of the answer itself (grammar, readability, photos, cited sources, and even the trustworthiness of the upvotes (this is to make sure no one is manipulating Quora to have their answers floated to the top).
The reason why Quora enforces quality checks like these is because they simply aim to be a reliable source of knowledge and insights. Their algorithms, rules, and policies all work toward that.
Quora sounds like an awesome site and all, but you’re probably asking yourself how any of this is going to help you as a blogger. I’ve listed a lot of the reasons why in this article, but here’s the short version:
Now that you know what Quora is and why you need to be on it, let’s get into how to set up your Quora account for success.
Simply go to the Quora homepage and sign up with either your Google account, Facebook account, or your email address.
Once you’ve signed up, a modal window will be displayed asking you about your interests and giving you numerous topics. Choose a least 10 topics that are closely related to your blog topic. If you feel that the topics are too general, it’s all right to choose other topics that may sound unrelated, as you can always change these later.
Quora will show you content based on the topics you’ve selected here. Next, Quora will ask you what topics you know about. Choose relevant topics that have the most followers.
Quora will also ask you if you know other languages. This is entirely optional, so feel free to skip it.
When you’re filling out this part, keep in mind that your profile should establish that you are trustworthy and credible. Provide information as truthfully and accurately as you can.
Start by clicking on “Add profile credential.” Make this part count because your profile credential will be displayed by default on every answer you write.
Then, click on “Write a description about yourself.”
Aside from your profile credential, your description is crucial in first impressions, since users clicking on your profile photo from your answer will see this first.
When you write your description, make sure to use words that you’d normally use. Include some social proof if you already have it, then link to your blog at the end. Finally, proofread your description to make sure there aren’t any typos or clumsy grammar.
Choose a profile photo in which you look presentable but approachable. If you can, use a professional headshot. Also, it’s advisable to use the same photo as the one you use in your blog and social media accounts.
The more information you provide, the more professional and credible your profile looks.
Quora allows you to share your answers on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Connect your social media accounts via the Settings option on your menu.
Even your privacy settings can be adjusted to maximize your visibility inside and outside Quora. First, access your privacy settings via Settings > Privacy.
The best way for your Quora profile to be displayed in the search results when someone does a search for your name is to allow search engines to index your name, so make sure that box is checked.
Also, you want anyone who sees your answer and thus your profile to be able to get in touch with you, so select “Allow any person on Quora to send me messages.” The same goes for anyone who wants to comment on your answers and posts, so check this box as well.
Hopefully I’ve convinced you of just how important Quora is to your overall blogging strategy and how something as simple as setting up your profile correctly can help you get the most out of Quora.
Once you have your Quora account set up, you can start answering questions (and asking them!) and get more traffic to your blog. Here are some tips about how to get traffic from Quora.
Have fun spreading and gaining knowledge!
