  • What is conversion optimization REALLY?
    • Influencing visitor/prospect behavior to make conversions
    • Breaks down into two components:
      • Influencing behavior
      • Making a conversion
  • Influencing behavior
    • Three sub-steps required to predictably & consistently influence behavior:
      • Step 1: Get visitor/prospect attention
      • Step 2: Make your offer attractive
      • Step 3: Conversion event (more on that in a second)
    • If you fail at Step 1 or Step 2 of influencing behavior — you lose.
  • Making a conversion
    • Types of conversion events:
      • Revenue-producing (sales, affiliate events, etc.)
      • Non-revenue-producing (email list signup, opening follow-up emails, clicking within emails, etc.)
    • Most of your money will actually be made OUTSIDE of revenue-producing conversion events
    • That means directing attention & relationship building are the most critical aspects of conversion optimization.
  • Most important nuggets to take away from all of this:
    • Conversion optimization comes down to your ability to influence behavior
    • Higher-revenue-producing conversion events usually require substantially more non-revenue-producing conversion events prior to “striking gold”
    • The most important components of influencing behavior (therefore of conversion optimization) are directing attention & relationship building
